Mr. Kamal Kanti Banik began his formal education in Belonia, Tripura. He later earned his Bachelor's degree in Commerce from the University of Calcutta, one of India's oldest and most prestigious academic institutions. While pursuing his undergraduate studies, he actively engaged in political and social dialogues, often participating in peace-building movements during times of regional unrest.
Driven by a passion for community development, Banik later pursued an Entrepreneurship Certification Course at Howard University, USA—a highly respected historically Black research university based in Washington, D.C. This international exposure deepened his understanding of economic empowerment, grassroots mobilization, and sustainable development models.
From an early stage in his career, Mr. Banik realized that academic knowledge must intersect with grassroots realities. His research interests organically evolved from concerns about environmental degradation to practical investigations into public health, biodiversity, and indigenous livelihoods.
Research Paper: “Pharmaceuticals in Drinking Water: A Future Water Quality Threat”
Published In: Indian Journal of Environmental Protection (Vol. 26, October 2006)
Significance: This pioneering paper examined the presence of pharmaceutical residues in public drinking water systems, a topic that was years ahead of its time in Indian environmental research. It highlighted how even trace amounts of antibiotics, painkillers, and hormones in water could pose serious risks to ecosystems and human health.
Mr. Banik’s involvement in ornithological studies and wildlife conservation marked a major milestone in his research contributions.
